$61,000
Cheque Presented to The James Fund
August
15, 2008, Peterborough. A cheque for $61,000 was presented
to The James Fund for Neuroblastoma Research at Sick Kids,
a result of money raised at the July 21st golf tournament
at the Kawartha Golf & Country Club in Peterborough.
"We were hoping to clear a profit of about
$30,000," said Vance Robbins of Anden Bath, major
sponsor of the event. "But when the total went over
$60,000 we were astounded."
Recently, The James Fund has been to the "top of the
world". What started as a small community rallying to
help one child, James Birrell, has led James Fund
researcher, Dr. David Kaplan, to take the top award
worldwide for his work with The James Fund. The continued
support and passion of this community has taken The James
Fund to the world stage. Sick Kids has named their
neuroblastoma research facility The James Birrell
Laboratories.
"The money from this golf tournament will go to
support other neuroblastoma families who are victim to
this disease", says Diana Birrell of The James Fund.
"It is events like this that prove to us the strength
of this community."
